The messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa Salam) said:
“whoever innovates into this affair of ours that which is not from it shall have it rejected. “ (Bukhari and Muslim).
in another narration of Muslim:
” whoever does an action that is not from this affair of ours will have it rejected.”
‘This affair of ours’ refers to the religion of islam. So anything that’s innovated into the religion, won’t be accepted.
This shows that whoever worships Allah in a way that hasn’t been prescribed, or in a way other than that of the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) it will be rejected, so is of no benefit.
And he (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) also said:
“and beware of the newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation (bidah) and every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the hell fire.” (Al-hakim and others)
So this shows there is no such things as a good bidah, as he (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) said every innovation is misguidance. And also the statement of the companion Abdullah Ibn Umar (radiyallahu anhu):
‘Every innovation is misguidance, even if the people regard it as good’
And he (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) said:
“and the best speech is the speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, and the worst of all affairs are the newly invented matters” (Muslim)
The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) used to say this at the beginning of his speeches to emphasise the severity of bidah, so the people would be well aware of this matter.
